Last Saturday was the summer solstice, the solar term with the longest daylight hours in the Northern Hemisphere. The hot summer officially started when the sun was directly over the Tropic of Cancer. The human body is prone to perspiration and energy consumption during this period of strong Yang energy. Light meals are recommended to dissipate heat and restore fluids.
During this year's Dragon Boat Festival, the Food Commons Foundation received 353.38 kg of rice dumplings donated by merchants and community members in Shatin District and successfully shared them with 2,025 people in need. We sincerely thank all donors for their generous support. Your kindness not only reduces food waste but also brings festive warmth to the community.
Today is our 10th anniversary~
More than 9,999,267 people have benefited from the Food Commons project, which has gathered 11,323,724.23 kg of food in total and distributed 10,790,105.95 kg!
In the past month, we have once again witnessed the "power of sharing". Under the sunshine of May, volunteers of the Food Commons Foundation continued to move forward, delivering boxes of heavy bread and lunch boxes to cleaners, scavengers, neighbours, homeless people, elderly people living alone and low-income families. A portion of food not only fills the stomach but also warms the heart.
Corn on Ear
Today is "Corn on Ear", one of the 24 solar terms. Corn on Ear is the third solar term in summer. This season has entered midsummer, with significantly higher temperatures, abundant rainfall, high humidity and hot weather. It is advisable to open windows more often to ventilate and breathe in fresh air to avoid being too greedy for cool air and causing summer cold.
Food Commons Foundation celebrates its 10th anniversary!
In order to let more people understand the meaning of cherishing food, we are organizing the "10th Anniversary Market Recycling Experience Fundraising Campaign" and invite everyone to participate in promoting food recycling and helping those in need.
