Over the past decade, Hong Kong has become increasingly aware of the issue of food waste; however, a large amount of food waste is still discarded daily. This not only wastes valuable resources but also adds to the environmental burden. At the same time, many people in our society still struggle to have enough to eat.
The Food Commons Foundation is committed to rescuing edible surplus food and works closely with communities and non-profit organizations to promote food redistribution and recycling. Our efforts help reduce waste, support vulnerable groups, and create green employment opportunities. We have witnessed the gradual rooting of a food-saving culture, with active support from all sectors of society.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Foundation. I am honoured to have been appointed as the new Chairman by the Board of Directors, succeeding our founding Chairperson, Ms. Au Yeung Po Chun. Moving forward, we will integrate our experience and community support, joining hands with more like-minded partners to continue promoting food saving and assistance.
In addition, we encourage the public to adopt a high-fibre, nutritious, and healthy diet, benefiting more elderly people and children. We also welcome more professionals to join our team.
Facing the challenges of climate change and resource scarcity, cherishing food and reducing waste is our shared responsibility. The Food Commons Foundation will continue to promote a culture of food saving and healthy eating, benefiting society and safeguarding our future.
Let us work together to create a better tomorrow.
