Our Work

Educate the public to reduce waste, cherish food, promote the concept of sharing leftover food in the community, and encourage more businesses, institutions, and individuals to join the action.

Upcycled Food Party

The first new concept demonstration charity event in Hong Kong with the theme of "Upcycled Food Party", was held on August 10-11, 2019. The event included a upcycled leftover food new product market, workshops, lectures and food wise movie appreciation sessions. The event invited Mr. Tse Chin-wan, Deputy Secretary of the Environment Bureau as the officiating guest, and representatives of the Environmental Protection Department also introduced the government's food waste reduction measures, the "Food Wise Hong Kong Campaign" and the leftover food recycling project.

Merchants of upcycled leftover food products introduced the latest products in the market and shared various methods of food wise with participants through workshops. The "Overfilled Food" new cultural exhibition that combines government, business and people to bring an innovative experience to the public is also a new direction for handling leftover food in the future.

Save Mandarins Action 2.0

"Food Commons" launched the "Action to Save Mandarins" at the end of 2018 to connect licensed food manufacturers in the region to process a large number of discarded pulp of Xinhui mandarins into jams and dried fruits, attracting the public's attention to the "Upcycling Leftover Food", and make it an attempt to deal with the pulp of Xinhui Mandarins that has been discarded seasonally over the years in a more systematic and scaled way in the future. As an experiment, supplemented by a series of upcycling activities, it will reduce food waste,  relieving the pressure on landfills in Hong Kong, it has also brought a new look to the usual "food saving" environmental protection work, and proposed inspiring solutions for leftover food.

We will continue our efforts to bring action into the community. In November 2019, we held a jam DIY workshop. Through training courses led by award-winning jam masters, we taught women and volunteers in the community about the waste of Xinhui mandarins. The pulp is made into jam, so that these "community foodwise ambassadors" can teach others to pass on the food wise culture; and through the community Xinhui mandarin handmade jam workshop hosted by the "community foodwise ambassadors", The message of "food saving" and "Upcycling Leftover Food" was passed on to the community through the participants' personal experience.

ECF Food Wise Ambassador Incubation Program

Purpose of the Program:

-Carry out extensive publicity to integrate food wise habits into the community and daily life: Bring the food wise message to schools, and through a series of activities, connect the frontline vegetable collection agencies, schools and communities, promote their cooperation, and make relevant messages and activities continue in the community;

-Integrate experience and focus on issues: respond to the government's planned Municipal Solid Waste Charging policy, integrate and adjust the practical experience of private rescue and assistance, and share it with more aspiring people and organizations, so that more people in society can participate and support; The government, food rescue groups, and the business community have discussed, co-created and divided labor to save food and waste reduction dialogue opportunities to create a more popular habit of handling leftover food in the community.
