It is a blessing to give than to take. Food Commons is now recruiting volunteers.  

We sincerely invite you to be Food Commons volunteers collecting leftover food and reducing food waste. When we are sharing food with those in need, we are also meeting like-minded friends at the same time. 

Last Sundy, the editor followed Tai Po volunteers and collected and distributed bread together. The typhoon made the weather sultrier. The editor walked a little and was drenched in sweat. We met a lot of cleaners who were working while some were taking a break outdoors along the way and wondered how much they sweated when cleaning the environment for us the whole day. They were grateful when receiving the bread and wished us health. It warmed the hearts of the editor and volunteers. We believed this was one of the reasons they kept on working despite the sweltering weather.

Food Commons Foundation volunteers shared bread, sandwiches and meal boxes in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and New Territories. Last week, a food wiser who booked two meal boxes through Facebook was late for some reason and the volunteer had to find another recipient. After asking and declined by two scavengers and a member in the neighbourhood, the volunteer asked a granny who was sitting on a long bench in an open resting space if she had eaten already. She came from Kowloon Bay to To Kwa Wan to visit relatives and did not eat anything and had nothing to eat. In the end, the meal box was given out to the granny. She was so grateful and surprised that she could have a free meal. She held the hands of the volunteer when saying thank you.

Food Commons Foundation has added Hung Hom to the meal box sharing action! Last week, volunteers took part in the collection and distribution of bread and meal box sharing action in six districts, namely Fo Tan, Tai Po, Fanling, To Kwa Wan, Hung Hom and Causeway Bay. A total of 531 servings of bread and 49 meal boxes were collected weighing 81.05 kgs in total and 302 people benefited. We still need more volunteers to cherish food and help others. 氣溫持續升高，共享食物基金的義工們仍然繼續出動。在火炭、大埔、粉嶺、土瓜灣和銅鑼灣這五個地區進行回收麵包及飯盒分享行動，並且由上週起，土瓜灣逢星期三都會進行三文治回收行動！義工們在五區共回收502件麵包以及30個飯盒，共重85.83公斤，惠及295人次。我們仍然需要義工一起惜食助人，歡迎加入！
