This episode introduces the influence that the Food Commons Foundation has on the community when providing services and the difficulties that we face when we provide help to the beneficiaries.
The power of an individual may seem to be little, but with the contribution and effort of every volunteer, every week we can continuously collect and distribute food to those in need, reducing the city’s food waste and caring for the grassroots. Bringing together the power of each volunteer do we realize how powerful we can be!
In Hong Kong, every day about 3,000 tonnes of food waste are sent to landfills while most of them are still consumable. However, in the community, there are over a million elderly people and grassroots who are deprived of food.
We hope that through public promotion, not only can we develop a leftover food sharing network, but also rescue food and help those in need.
“Hello, granny! How’s your leg?” A volunteered kindly asked.
“It’s so kind of you. Thank you”. Granny replied and was all smiles.
Last week, the editor joined volunteers to distribute bread in Fanling district and witnessed that not only did volunteers gave out bread to a granny, but also cared for her physical conditions. Through simple conversations, care and warmth spread to the heart.
“Please eat the bread soon. Don’t let it sit there for too long!”
