處暑時節食咩好?

Today is the second solar term of autumn, “end of heat”. End of heat is a solar term that reflects changes in temperature. It means the hot and unbearable weather has finally come to an end. The temperature will drop significantly and the air will become dry. During the end of heat period, you may eat more dishes made from the following vegetables: 

1.⁠ ⁠Pumpkin 

Pumpkin has a high water content. About 90% comes from water. It is rich in vitamin A and lutein which can stabilize cells, protect eyes, promote vision, etc. 

Ways to eat: Pumpkin vegetable soup, pumpkin porridge, pumpkin sago dessert, etc. 

2.⁠ ⁠Bok Choy  

Bok choy contains more than 95% water and is also rich in vitamins C and A. It helps to supplement daily needs without causing a burden to the gastrointestinal tract. 

 

Ways to eat: Boiled clams with bok choy and vermicelli in soup, bok choy and pork dumplings, stir-fried pork slices with bok choy, etc. 

3.⁠ ⁠Eggplant  

Eggplant also has more than 90% water and it is also rich in dietary fiber and a certain amount of potassium and folic acid. High-fiber and low-calorie food can provide a feeling of fullness while controlling weight. Potassium can help balance sodium in the body, improve or prevent high blood pressure, maintain cardiovascular health, etc.  

 

Ways to eat: steamed eggplant with garlic, steamed eggplant stuffed with dace meat, baked eggplant with cheese, etc.
